Let the Games Begin!
Summer is our favorite time of the year at Kahani. Sleeping in, visiting cousins, and cuddling up with a good mystery—there are lots of reasons to celebrate. But this issue of Kahani will make sure you don’t get too comfortable on that couch. Let the games begin!

Short Stories:
-Ten seconds left on the time clock and Samir’s team is down by one point. Can he score a basket to help his team win?
-Rappeling: that’s what Anik is going to do when he goes mountain climbing with his friends. But what is that figure carved into the side of the mountain?
-Sarika wants to dress up as a princess for a Guess Who game at school. Oh no! Her classmates can’t figure out who she is!

Features:
-Anand Vishwanathan is the world’s top chess player. He shares some of his winning secrets with Kahani readers!
-Baseball season is just heating up. Brain Food tells you how to predict how your favorite player is going to perform this season.
-So you think you’re pretty smart? Test your mental muscle with this challenge from the world’s smartest people.
-And so much more!

Look for Games and Sports in your mailbox mid-July.

Holidays 2007
September means back to school, but also the start of the festival season. Our annual Holidays issue is back by popular demand!

Short Stories:
-Ahmad’s Nana Abba is coming for Eid. But he forgets his Eid promise. What will Ahmad do now?
-Nikhil is half German and half Indian. And both sets of grandparents are coming to visit him for Christmas. Will peace prevail?
-It’s Anil’s first Diwali in America. Instead of firecrackers and sweets, Anil is surrounded by cold, white snow. What’s going to happen to his favorite holiday?

And so much more:

-Think you know all the festivals in South Asia? For Real! digs up some you may not have heard of.
-Get your scissors and some paper out! We’ve got a Smart Art project for you!
-And of course September means we announce the next three words for our annual short story writing contest. Here we go!

Possible Themes?

Creativity, Making Music, and Magic! are some of the themes we’ve explored at Kahani. We’re always open to your ideas, so let us know if there are any themes you want us to focus on. Right now, we’re working on Rock the Vote (Spring 2008) and Family (Summer 2008). And if you think you want to write for us, check out the Editorial Calendar on our Website.

Kahani Renewals
Summer is a hectic time for all of our readers. Renewing your Kahani subscription is just not a priority. But we’re hoping you will make it one. Keeping our subscription numbers up is the only way we can continue to publish Kahani ad-free.

To help you track your subscription, the mailing label on the back cover of your Kahani alerts you when you have one or no issues left. Renewing is easy through our Website.

A Great Gift
Stumped for a graduation, birthday, or Raksha Bandhan gift? A Kahani subscription makes a unique present. Send one or send a few. We’ll even include a personalized gift card.
