Mitali Perkins’ latest novel, Secret Keeper (Delacorte Books, 2009), tells the story of affectionate, impatient Asha Gupta. When Asha’s father leaves India to search for work in New York City, Asha, her gorgeous sister Reet, and their mother move in with Baba’s family in Calcutta. Asha’s only solace is the house’s rooftop hideaway where she writes in her diary, her secret keeper. When news arrives from America about Baba, Asha makes a choice that will change all their lives forever. Peppered with letters and diary entries, Secret Keeper is a novel about love, family, and sacrifice. Fans of childhood classics such as Little Women will enjoy Ms. Perkins’ book.
