An Unforgettable Adventure
When Jody’s father rouses her out of her slumber by whispering the words “Wake
up, Jody-bird” in her ear, Jody just knows that she is leaving on an extraordinary
voyage. When Jody and her father finally arrive at their destination, he points
to a streak of white in the black sky. He calls it a “’hey-there’ from
outer space - tiny piece of some distant world.”
Mara Rockliff’s satisfying book, Pieces of Another World (Sylvan
Dell, 2005), celebrates meteor showers. But what makes this book a keeper are
Salima
Alikhan’s lush watercolor illustrations. Her purpley-bluish-black paintings
of the sky and all its mysteries are just gorgeous. |
