Taking Time
Canadian writer Rachna Gilmore presents a heartwarming story about an eager girl
and her patient grandfather in her latest book, Grandpa’s Clock (Orca,
2006). Cayley and Grandpa are working on a majestic grandfather clock, and Cayley
thinks the project is coming along much too slowly. But when Grandpa is suddenly
taken to the hospital, Cayley understands that it will take time to both build
her clock and heal her grandfather.
Readers will delight in the details of clock-making in this enjoyable book; they
will learn about pulleys and pendulums, chains and weights. And Amy Meissner’s
use of warm, woody colors illustrates the variety of clocks in Cayley’s
basement perfectly. |
