A Delightful Journey
“
Is it hot in India, Grandfather?” asks Ravi of his grandfather who is visiting
from India. “Yes, indeed,” he answers. “At dawn, [the sun]
rolls into the sky like a fiery ball, then he uncurls and he is a ferocious tiger!” So
begins Ravi’s questions and his grandfather’s answers in Elephant
Dance: A Journey to India (Barefoot Books, 2006) by Theresa Heine and illustrated
by Sheila Moxley. Grandfather’s story-like responses to every one of Ravi’s
questions—“What is the wind like in India?” “Is there
snow in India?” “Have you ever seen an elephant, Grandfather?” —are
a wonderful introduction to India’s sights, sounds, tastes, and rhythms. |
